Westmorland Wildfowlers Association

Purdey Game & Conservation Bronze Award 2012, BASC's Stanley Duncan Award 2015 & the Sport & Recreation Alliance's Green Thinking Award 2015

The Westmorland Wildfowlers Association was founded in March 1950 by a group of 30 conservation minded men of Westmorland who were keen to effectively manage the wildfowling practices on River Kent Estuary in the North East corner of Morecambe Bay in North West England.

Today the WWA has around 103 members actively involved in the sport of wildfowling, from juniors through to senior and honorary members, some with over 50 years of association with the WWA. We have a strongyoung shot section who are actively involved in the clubs conservation programme. The Association controls approximately 17 miles of foreshore and intertidal shooting inside the old County boundary of Westmorland for the benefit of the membership along with other associated sporting activities including game shooting and duck flighting.

Affiliated to WAGBI (Wildfowlers Association of Great Britain and Ireland) in 1952, now BASC, conservation plays an important role in the WWA who seek to promote a sustainable and responsible approach to the sport of wildfowling through the provision of sanctuary areas on the estuary, habitat improvement schemes, disturbance management, supplementary feed programs in hard weather, duck rearing and release programes with over 18,000 ducks released to date & provision of artificial wildfowl nest structures around the estuary.
